The Southern Knights Cruisers is a Non-Profit Club formed by
local car hobbyists and businessmen dedicated to raising money to help kids. Our newest program is called "Adopt A Cop"
which was approved June 2006 by the Chesterfield County Police Department. It is our way of saying
thanks to the Officers injured while on duty trying to protect us all. We ask that you join with us by sending them a card or note.
If you are interested Email us for all details. This web page will be updated soon to include more information about this important program.
Your help will be greatly appreciated. See more on this below.
Adopt A Cop Program
New Program Announced! To Be Known as, "Adopt A Cop."

Members of Southern Knights Cruisers and Carol Pulm, Community Events Coordinator for Hardee's & Boddie-Noell,
announce New "Adopt A Cop" Program for Chesterfield County.
This program was born as a result of the two officers in Chesterfield County that were recently
involved in a shooting with one being killed. We sponsored a night of donations to help the one injured
and the family of the one killed. This sparked a bonding of sort with the Chesterfield County Police Department.
On June 3, Sgt. Hellestedt stopped by the cruise-in to give us an update on the officer that was injured. We
announced it to the crowd at the cruise-in and asked for prayers, as the officer was having a hard time coping with his injury.
Now, as an extension of our efforts, we have gotten with Hardee's Management and the Chesterfield County
Police Department and will sponsor a "New Program" for this area. Hopefully, other clubs, organizations
and businesses will join in to promote this effort. And you know, we will need as many family households
to also join in as possible, if it is to be 100% successful.
Our "Adopt A Cop" program was announced on June 10 at which time the first two (2) officer's
names, as supplied by the Chesterfield County Police Department, were mentioned. They are: Officer Joe Diman, who
was shot while on a domestic call, and Officer Chris Watson, who was injured in a terrible accident with his
Humvee.
When this program was announced, we asked cruise-in participants on the lot to feel free to talk to us
about how to start their own "Adopt A Cop" program outside of Chesterfield County. We asked they
take our first two officers names and distribute to their coworkers, friends, family, churches, etc. They need all the
prayers and other help they can get at this time. We furnished labels with these first two officers names and addresses
and asked all to drop them a note, card, etc
As you know, Even when they are signed out to eat, they have to remain very close to the squad cars.
Many times they leave on a call without finishing a meal. They are more than often taken for granited by the
public, as we know they are always there for us when we dial 911.
Program Up-date December 2007
From: Wayne Balch, President of Southern Knights Cruisers
Thank all of you that have supported our
program this past year. I am very excited about the future of the Adopt A Cop Program here in Virginia.
As of October 10, 2006, the Southern Knights Cruisers (SKC) released the program and separated expanded the organization
to be known as "Adopt A Cop of Virginia." The reasoning was that the program is: 1) It is so important to our communities, which we
have seen first hand. Therefore, SKC would like to see the program expand all across Virginia. 2) The SKC, as much as
they would like, doesn't have the time, considering the other projects they oversee locally.
3) And in our travels, we have already found that each are has different needs. 4) The SKC realizes that other groups
located across Virginia can handle their areas best, as they are more familiar with local law enforcement and what is
needed. We have a website where you may find more information about this new organization. See it at
www.AdoptACopVirginia.com
This organization will be comprised of an Executive Committee that will work with regional offices as established across
Virginia. The regional offices will in turn work with area groups located within cities and counties to help officers
all across Virginia. In this way the organization through the program will accept the challenge as the call has been
heard: "Officer(s) Need Assistance". It will answer that call to show them they are appreciated and to say "Thank
You." This isn't going to happen over night. But, the plan includes City or County Sheriff/Police Departments will work with an approved
group in their respective area based on what help they might need. We are asking you to join with these groups, when formed, as
you did with us.
As in the case of Chesterfield County, that need was determined to be individual support for several officers. And, we still have
several officers that would love hearing from you. Send them a get well or thinking of you card, or a note. We have seen the need to
help lift the spirits of the officers injuried. This has also been seen to help the moral of all the officers that they work with. And why
shouldn't we? After all, they put their lives on the line for us daily when on & off duty. We need to let them know, they haven't been forgotten.
Email us if you would like to have their names and addresses. wayneschevys@aol.com
As we have said many times, "It is up to all vehicle hobbyists, other citizens within their respective communities, and that live in this
Commonwealth to make the program work. This isn't a one time thing. It's a commitment to be there to help when the call
goes out "Officer Needs Assistance." And as previously mentioned, this program has already proven that the community
will be a better place when everyone is involved. Just ask Officer Joe Diman of Chesterfield County that recently returned to work or
any Chesterfield County Officer. Officer Diman showed us all what it takes to be an officer. He showed that the oathe he took, as an
officer, was taken seriously. His dedication and commitment has set an example for all to follow. One of protecting the community
in which he serves as well as his fellow officers. "You are Our Hero Officer Diman." You and other officers like you are why our citizens
need to take a stand to show just how much all of you are appreciated. Update! We want to welcome Officer Haywood James back to work.
Officer James has been out of work for several months. We surely thank all of you that sent him cards while he was out of work.
The following are officers and/or their families
needing help at this time. Please let us know if you would like to join us in helping these officers that dedicated their lives to
serve the community and the people that live in it.
Officer Chris Watson - Chesterfield County Police Department
Contact us to get the addresses of the above to send cards, letters, or notes to the officers of the family that sacrificed
for us. Also, we hope many of you will send Officer Diman a card to welcome him back, if you have not already done so.
If you would like to make a contribution to the police fund that helps these officers and their families until other
arrangements can be approved, please call us at 804-530-2225. We will tell you how to make out your check and where to mail it.
It's 100% tax deductible!
Thank you,
Wayne Balch

Adopt A Cop Program Fundraiser
The Fundraisers for the Chesterfield County Police Foundation have raised over $10,000.00. The Southern Knights Cruisers was
pleased to partner with O'Charley's Restaurant , and Hardee's under the Southern Knights Cruisers Adopt A Cop Program.
Working with the officers and other law enforcement personnel, each event turned into a party. When McGruff is there, the kids just love him.
O'Charley's Restaurant sponsored two Waffle Breakfast by furnishing all the food and covering the costs of all expenses, allowing
ALL MONEY RAISED to go directly to the Chesterfield County Police Foundation. They also prepared everything and the food was
served by "Chesterfield's Finest" (officers) and members of the Southern Knights Cruisers. There is planning at this time for another
Fund Raiser in 2008. Watch for an announcement soon!
Hardee's sponsored a "Lock Up" at a Cruise-in on their lot. As always with any of our charity events, checks are to be made payable
directly to Chesterfield Police Foundation. Music was provided by Southern Knights Cruisers, with all our DJ's
on site: the Wolf Man (John Newton) and the Rock It Man (John Ronkartz).
We appreciate you supporting our law enforcement & the community! Again, Thanks for
Your Support! - Info: Call Wayne Balch at 804-530-2225 or Email at

www.adoptacopvirginia.com
Unlike many police funds that you are asked to contribute too, with ours all your money will go directly to the county or city police
department where it can help the officer, officers family or police department as you intended. This is the way it should
be!
Special Thanks goes to all the management and staff of Hardee's and Boddie-Noell Enterprises, and O'Charly's, who participated
and hosted these events. Also, to Jamie's Exhaust & Auto Repair of Richmond, VA, Victory Tabernacle Church on Genito Rd.,
and Rucker Posey (The Munster's) of Richmond, all the car hobbyists that attend the Saturday night cruise-ins,
and the community that supported this event. The only question asked by everyone afterward, "When can we do this again?"
And the answer, "This won't be the last." And as we know it wasn't. Everyone, that had attended, was telling those that
hadn't what a blast it was.
If you didn't make it and still wish to make a Tax Deductible Donation, please call us. If you call Wayne Balch, he will give
you an Adopt A Cop Decal. Remember, this one way for the residents of Chesterfield to show the Officers that protect
them daily that "We Care" and at the same time help the community in which they live.
For information call Wayne Balch of the Southern Knights Cruisers at 804-530-2225 or Sgt. Lane Hellerstedt of the

It has already been started by the Virginia Peninsular Car Club Council in the Newport News area and the Virginia Beach
Police Departments is looking at it as they also love the idea of this new program. They hope to start one in their area Soon!
The Son's of the Colonial Heights American Legion Post 284 is sponsoring the Colonial Heights Police/Sheriff's Office. And hopefully,
